Data Management

Matrix

Matrices are a type of data display which allow tabular presentations of data in which:

  • The rows in the matrix are a set of items specified by a query
  • The columns in the matrix are a set of items specified by a query
  • The cells in the matrix are any of:
  • A simple indicator of the existence of a cross reference between the item in the row and the item in the column
  • One or more attributes of the cross references between these items
  • One or more attributes of the item(s) from a third set of items that link the first set of items to the second set

Metrics

The Metrics module allows projects to define and monitor a projects metrics and to report these whenever required to Microsoft Word, Excel or HTML.

You can define numerous metrics each of which is a set of queries which analyses the returned items. An analysis includes simple counts, and fully comprehensive coverage analysis of all item attributes. This mechanism allows projects to monitor, for example, the completeness of their requirements sets, the completeness of their cross reference linkage, or the volume of data generated by specific project groups.

Specific metrics can be generated from any project baseline(s), allowing cumulative statistics to be developed as the project unfolds.

Dashboard

Dashboards are a mechanism that allows management summary information to be generated by Cradle and displayed or published. Dashboards also allow drill-down into the detail behind the dashboard displays. All aspects of dashboards are user-definable.

Graphs

Every project has objectives or goals by which the project can be judged to be complete and by which its success can be assessed. All project managers need a means to monitor their projects’ progress against the goals and to report this progress clearly and effectively. This reporting often uses a graph that either:

  • Starts at zero and grows over time to reach 100% of the goal, termed an earned value graph
  • Starts at 100% of the inverse of the goal and falls over time to reach the goal, termed a burn-down graph

The goal for an earned value chart is often a measure of the number of some things that have been completed. For a burn-down chart, the goal is to reach zero.

Publish Data

Data information can be published to a number of different formats including HTML, RTF and plain text.
