Document Loader

Document Loader is a requirements capture tool that allows seamless requirements capture and forms part of the Cradle Toolsuite for Microsoft Office®. Document Loader offers a complete solution for capturing information held in Microsoft Word documents into your Cradle Project Database (PDB).

A typical source document may contain requirements, project-specific items or specifications grouped as paragraph hierarchies. Document Loader reads or parses each paragraph and creates a hierarchy of items in the database. Cross references are created between levels in this structure. Body text, figures and tables are captured into frames of these items.

Document Loader can capture a Cradle database item, e.g. a requirement, from any of:

• Heading paragraph
• Paragraph of body text
• Single table
• Table row
• Table cell

Full control is provided for:

• Which part(s) of the document are captured
• The item type(s) into which these parts are captured, and the numbering of these items
• Table mappings
• Hierarchical linking of the items when captured

When capturing occurs:

• The Word document is loaded into the Cradle database as a source document
• The document paragraphs are captured into the database as items of specified type(s)
• A cross reference is created between each of these items and the paragraph(s) or source statement (s)
• Reference is made to any figure(s), table(s), table row or table cell from which it was captured
• Cross references are created between the items to match the document structure:

As new issues of your document are released, Document Loader can load the new version of your document and update items in the database by identifying the revised paragraphs:
