Gateway

Cradle Gateway is 3SL's OEM version of the Reqtify product from Geensoft. Gateway is a separately licensed module with the product code CR-GATE. The licensing of Gateway is completely separate to the licensing of all other parts of Cradle. Gateway uses FLEXlm for its licensing, and so Gateway licences are distributed as FLEXlm license.lic files. Both server-based concurrent user licensing and node-locked licensing options are available. Organisations who use FLEXlm for the licence management of other products can add Gateway licence files to their existing FLEXlm licence server.

Cradle Gateway is a requirements traceability solution that links your development and verification documents with formal requirements stored in documents and databases. A set of couplings (interfaces) are included with the standard Gateway licence and are:

Other couplings can be added by special request to 3SL, albeit at an additional cost and with a delay whilst a special build of Gateway is created with these couplings added. The additional couplings available are:

Most engineering projects start by defining high-level specifications, followed by more specifications as the project progresses. Specifications contain technical and procedural requirements that guide the product through each engineering phase. In addition, working documents, such as hardware schematics, simulation models, software source code specifications and procedures must adhere to and cover the requirements defined by specifications.

Cradle Gateway allows you to configure which specification and working documents to process, the type of traceability information to obtain from each type of document, and the traceability relationship between these documents. Cradle Gateway performs the coverage and impact analysis, graphically displays relationships between documents and generates reports. Cradle Gateway improves the impact analysis throughout a project lifecycle and the quality by managing requirements traceability.

Cradle Gateway is an effective solution for enhancing project management traceability information, coming from any source.

Cradle Gateway includes the following features:

• Manage project documents and graphically create traceability relationships between documents
• Customize types for importing various types of data from third party products
• Use graphical, coverage analysis, and impact analysis views to visualize and analyse traceability relationships between documents
• Create filters to customize analysis and displays
• Capture and compare project snapshots to determine changes in requirements and coverage
• Generate reports using default and custom templates

Gateway is only available for Windows. Gateway is an optional component inside the Cradle installation file for Windows. Users who wish to install Gateway must choose a Custom installation and select whether the client and/or server components of Gateway are to be installed. Such users must also specifically request a licence from 3SL.

In conjunction with Geensoft, 3SL has extended the capabilities of the underlying Reqtify product to allow it to be used in a distributed, multi-site environment. The standard Reqtify product, and the version of Reqtify available in other OEM versions, is not truly multi-user. It relies on a common file system available to all users and uses the file locking provided by the operating system to share data between users. As such, Reqtify cannot be used by groups of users who do not share a common filesystem, for example users who are different locations. 3SL has wrapped Reqtify in a distributed environment that overcomes this restriction and, for example, allows users in different locations to share a common project configuration.

This capability is unique to the Cradle variant of Reqtify.

Gateway must be used in conjunction with WorkBench. It is started from the Tools menu.

Once started, a project containing any number of data sources can be defined. Each Cradle data source is the combination of:

• A login to a specific Cradle project
• A query (with its associated location, one of: personal, user, user type, team, project, automatic, system) to identify the Cradle items to be linked to other items from other data sources
• A navigation (with its associated location, one of: personal, user, user type, team, project, automatic, system) to identify how the linkage of these items is to be seen within Cradle

Gateway will allow users to define cross references between components of each of these data sources. These cross references are the traceability mappings between the data sources. The set of cross references are held within data files created by Gateway. These data files are moved into the Cradle database when Gateway is closed. As such, the traceability mappings are available to all users of a Cradle project, no matter where they are located. Gateway provides a range of powerful facilities to manage these traceability mappings as the underlying data sources (such as Word documents, DOORS modules or Cradle items) are created, deleted or changed.

Gateway utilises the following Cradle licence:
