Capturing from word using Document Loader:

Open the following Microsoft® Word® document:

Car Park Requirements (for document loader)

This document has a number of draft requirements listed, some with images. The document already has a hierarchy of requirements organised according to the default headers (heading 1, heading 2 etc.)

Open Document Loader by clicking: Start => Cradle => Document loader:

This opens the Document Loader interface:

The login details are the same as for Workbench or Toolset.

Click on the open document button:

and browse for this document:CarParkRequirements-loader.doc

Ensure that the default type is set to 'Requirement' (for the purposes of this exersize)

Click OK and the Document Loader will 'read' the document and (if formatted correctly) will create a hierarchy of items, in this case requirements:

To view the document view of the captured document click on the : button.

From here you can explore the hierarchy. if you click on any node in the left column, the associated section of the document becomes highlighted in the document view. Have a look and a play.

This allows you to check in the document which items to capture into your Cradle database.

To capture items you may tick the bockes (by clicking in them) to select them. Or to select everything for capture click this button: to tick all nodes.

Then when you are ready to capture your document into Cradle, click this button:

You have now captured the requirements into your Cradle® Project. Document Loader has already created the hierarchy from the layout of the document.

You have now captured the Requirements from the table into your Cradle® Project.

To capture from paragraphs:

The following example shows capturing System Notes of type 'Feature' to the database. The paragraphs are taken from demo sales literature associated with the car park example.

(System Notes are user definable items. The administrator of the project can define a system note to be any type of information/data they need it to be. Cradle has several types of data defined by default as System Notes in the default schema.)

Open the following document in Microsoft® Word®: Car-Park-Sales-literature.doc

Select all the paragraphs to be captured and press the capture button Word Capture to open the capture dialogue as before and select Capture Settings as shown below:

Select Item Type = System Note Item Type =System Note: Type = Feature
Select Each selected paragraph into a separate item. Select the middle radio button
jhkg Numbering Options = Feature {number} and Add System Notes to project radio button selected

Of course the paragraph capture can be used to capture items of many different types.

Selecting item details will allow you to set any global values for item attributes. For example, if “TEST” was added in the Description field, ALL items captured during the operation would have the Description attribute set to “TEST .

capture additional information about the items

Click on the capture button and you will capture each paragraph into a separate system note of type 'feature'
