Symbols Within Other Symbols

Some diagram notations allow symbols to be nested within other symbols:

• Use cases within systems in Use Case diagrams (UCDs)
• States within superstates in Sequence diagrams (SQDs)
• Operations within environment symbols in Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)

The Symbol pulldown menu in the Diagram Editor has been extended to allow such symbols to be removed from within the symbol that contains them:

Selecting Within Symbol ® Remove from Within Symbol will remove the selected symbol from the list of symbols inside its containing symbol. In the example, the operation Deploy Defences is removed from within the symbol NATIONAL DEFENCE COMMAND. A confirmation dialogue is shown when the operation has completed:
