Cradle from 3SL, the complete Model Based Systems Engineering Toolsuite, specialising in requirements management, requirements capture, model based systems engineering and for systems engineering software, support and consultancy, the logical choice: Cradle from 3SL.

August 2010 [Cradle 6.3]

Wider Database Fields

Several fields have been widened in Cradle-6.3 databases:

  • Usernames and passwords are now up to 40 characters, instead of 8

  • User-defined item type names are now up to 40 characters, instead of 16
  • Category names are now up to 40 characters, instead of 16
  • Frame names are now up to 40 characters, instead of 16
  • Frame type names are now up to 40 characters, instead of 16
  • Names (except for data definitions) are now up to 255 characters, instead of 60

The changes provide more flexibility in the construction of project schemas. The wider passwords are important for some organisations that are moving to 12 character, or longer, passwords. These changes also allow Asian users to represent their names fully in Cradle.

The migration of databases from previous versions of Cradle to the format of Cradle-6.3 is fully supported by the database converters supplied with all Cradle releases on Linux, UNIX and Windows. The conversion of Cradle-6.2 to Cradle-6.3 databases is performed by the converter cvt_6263.exe.

The conversion of databases is automatic if Cradle-6.3 is installed in the same location as the previous Cradle release, so that the installers can detect that an upgrade from a previous version of Cradle is occurring.
