Document Publisher Speed Improvements

As part of our development work for the next Cradle release, Cradle-6.2, we have added two specific performance improvements to the Document Publisher tool that we believe will have a major impact on your document publishing activities:

  • Hide Word whilst the document is being published
  • Use a new mechanism to generate tables within documents

Full details of these mechanisms will be provided when Cradle-6.2 is released.

In tests within 3SL, generating a document of over 500 pages that took 50 minutes 32 seconds across our network (running Document Publisher on a PC connected to a Linux server) in Cradle-6.1, now takes:

  • 27 minutes 53 seconds using the original table generation mechanism but hiding Word whilst the document is published
  • 18 minutes 40 seconds using the new table generation mechanism with Word visible as the document is published
  • 16 minutes 45 seconds using the new table generation mechanism and hiding Word whilst the document is published

In this large example, this represents a 66% reduction in the time taken to publish this document. We expect similar performance improvements with most documents that you will generate from Cradle.
