3SL Web-based newsletter for July 2007 [Cradle 5.6]

Domain IDs

In Cradle-5.6, all use of the term Model ID has been replaced by the term Domain ID in Cradle UIs, help text and documentation. The Domain ID identifies a piece of modelling information:

  • A diagram
  • A specification
  • A data definition (also called a DD entry)

as being part of one of the two domains provided by each Cradle database:

  • Essential domain, Domain ID E, for implementation-independent analysis models
  • Implementation domain, Domain ID I, for architecture and design models
This name change is to avoid confusion that could otherwise occur when a major extension to the modelling capabilities provided by Cradle occurs in a future release.
