Serious Citrix and Office 2007 Problems

Citrix has announced details of some known issues with Word 2007 on certain versions of the Citrix Presentation Server. For details, please refer to:

http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX111720
http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX118396
http://www.citrix.com/English/ps2/accessAnswers/challenge.asp?contentID=165232

These references describe several issues and their known workarounds that users of Office 2007 products must be aware of in conjunction with the following Citrix products:

  • Presentation Server 4.0
  • Presentation Server 4.5

These issues include:

  • File Type Association: File extensions for Excel 2007, Word 2007, and PowerPoint 2007 do not show up on Access Management Console Content Redirection tabs.
  • Some Office 2007 features do not work in Presentation Server environments, such as Live Preview and Quick Parts. ClearType font smoothing was originally not supported in Windows 2003 Terminal Services environments. Please refer to the Microsoft Knowledge Base article 302555 for more information.
  • 100 percent CPU utilization is caused by csrss.exe and wfshell.exe when trying to launch Word 2007 with content redirection enabled.
  • The Office Publisher 2007 icon is not available when profiling.
  • When installing Office 2007 in a Terminal Server environment, you may receive an error message similar to:

This copy of Microsoft Office <application> cannot be used on a Terminal Server.
Please contact your local Microsoft retailer for more information.

Licensing enforcement for Office 2007 has changed. A volume license edition will be required for Office 2007 applications to launch in a Terminal Server environment.
