{"id":1596,"date":"2017-05-18T10:31:12","date_gmt":"2017-05-18T09:31:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.threesl.com\/blog\/?p=1596"},"modified":"2019-10-16T16:40:19","modified_gmt":"2019-10-16T15:40:19","slug":"ldap-lightweight-directory-access-protocol-authentication-within-cradle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.threesl.com\/blog\/ldap-lightweight-directory-access-protocol-authentication-within-cradle\/","title":{"rendered":"LDAP Authentication Within Cradle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cradle provides the ability to use LDAP for user login (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lightweight_Directory_Access_Protocol\">Lightweight Directory Access Protocol<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>This feature provides the ability for Cradle to authenticate a user against an LDAP server instead of passwords held in Cradle user accounts within a Cradle project database.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Used to look up user login information from a server<\/li>\n<li>Avoids the need for user to enter username and password entry when launching the tools<\/li>\n<li>LDAP is an optional part of Cradle that you can enable or not (disabled by default)<\/li>\n<li>Supported by all Cradle tools<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1597\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1597\" style=\"width: 294px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1597 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.threesl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/LDAP.png\" alt=\"Screenshot of login dialog using LDAP\" width=\"294\" height=\"299\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1597\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Login dialog showing LDAP being used<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Cradle supports two methods of LDAP authentication:<\/h2>\n<p>The first for systems where the <em>username<\/em> can be inferred from <em>network username<\/em> and the second for systems where the<em> username<\/em> can not be inferred from the <em>network username<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h4>Force Network Login Name<\/h4>\n<p>The first method assumes that <em>Cradle username<\/em> is to be inferred from the current <em>network username<\/em> (Force Network LoginName). A user authenticates against <em>LDAP<\/em> when they login to the network by supplying a <em>network username<\/em> and a <em>network password<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>This method is to allow a user to login to a <em>Cradle<\/em> project without specifying a <em>username<\/em> or <em>password<\/em>. In this situation, the users are already authenticated to their desktop or <em>Citrix<\/em> environment and we do not require them to login again with a <em>username<\/em> and <em>password<\/em> to gain access to <em>Cradle<\/em>. So, provided that a user has logged-in to their desktop or<em> Citrix<\/em> environment and they have a <em>User Profile<\/em> in a <em>Cradle<\/em> project, the users will be able to login to <em>Cradle<\/em> without supplying a <em>username<\/em> or<em> password<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h4>Username\/Password validated via LDAP server<\/h4>\n<p>The second method allows users to enter <em>username<\/em> and <em>password<\/em> to be validated via <em>LDAP server<\/em>.
