{"id":2284,"date":"2017-08-18T11:46:50","date_gmt":"2017-08-18T10:46:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.threesl.com\/blog\/?p=2284"},"modified":"2019-02-04T11:33:56","modified_gmt":"2019-02-04T11:33:56","slug":"managing-cradle-environment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.threesl.com\/blog\/managing-cradle-environment\/","title":{"rendered":"Managing your Cradle Environment"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>A Fully Customisable Systems Engineering Environment<\/h2>\n<p>We use definition files to define your <em>Cradle environment<\/em> to your project&#8217;s needs.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Queries<\/strong> &#8211; how we filter items in the database<\/li>\n<li><strong>Views<\/strong> &#8211; how we view the lists of filtered items<\/li>\n<li><strong>Forms<\/strong> &#8211; how we see individual items<\/li>\n<li><strong>Matrices<\/strong> &#8211; how we view results of queries and linked items in rows and columns<\/li>\n<li><strong>Metrics<\/strong> &#8211; how we can see the numbers of items meeting a criteria<\/li>\n<li><strong>Reports<\/strong> &#8211; how we output exported tables containing a set of query results formatted according to a particular view and table style.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dashboards<\/strong> &#8211; management summary that can define KPIs<\/li>\n<li><strong>Navigations<\/strong> &#8211; how we filter cross references<\/li>\n<li><strong>Startpages<\/strong> &#8211; how we provide a range of selectable actions, each of which either displays a PDF file, opens a specific page in the Cradle help, opens a particular dialog or runs a query, report or similar. The start page is displayed in the main working area of the WorkBench UI and is fully customisable<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sessions<\/strong> &#8211; store information about your required WorkBench environment such as window dimensions, current project, opened queries, reports etc. to be loaded upon login<\/li>\n<li><strong>Graphical Print Settings<\/strong> &#8211; how we print diagrams<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hierarchy Diagram Properties<\/strong> &#8211; style in which we show items<\/li>\n<li><strong>Capture Setups<\/strong> &#8211; how we are to capture items in Document Loader<\/li>\n<li><strong>Report Styles<\/strong> &#8211; styles available for reports which include font, alignment, underline, etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Graph Styles<\/strong> -styles available for graphs which include fonts, grid size, axes size, etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Export Formats<\/strong> &#8211; settings of exports to reuse at a later time<\/li>\n<li><strong>Import Formats<\/strong> &#8211; settings of imports to reuse at a later time<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All of the above are available in <em>WorkBench<\/em> and subsets are available in other tools, e.g. you can run <em>queries<\/em> in <em>WebAccess<\/em> or use <em>Import Formats<\/em> with <em>c_io<\/em><\/p>\n<p>For more information on how to setup these definition file please see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.threesl.com\/cradle\/help\/7.3\/WorkBench\/Other\/definitions.htm\">definitions<\/a> section of our online help.<\/p>\n<p>These definitions are stored in one of several areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Project<\/strong> \u2013 visible to all members of the Cradle project (<em>PROJECT privilege<\/em> is required)<\/li>\n<li><strong>User Type<\/strong> \u2013 visible to all users with your<em> user type <\/em>in this project<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>Team<\/strong> \u2013 visible to all members of your current <em>team<\/em> in this project<\/li>\n<li><strong>User<\/strong> \u2013 visible only to you when logged in as this <em>Cradle username<\/em> in this project<\/li>\n<li><strong>Personal<\/strong> \u2013 visible to a specific<em> machine login username,<\/em> across all projects to which\u00a0 he\/she has accesses<\/li>\n<li><strong>Automatic<\/strong> \u2013 visible to all members of this Cradle project (you cannot save definitions with this scope). Automatic definitions are created as a starter set when an item type is defined. They are a good starting candidate for editing and then using &#8216;<em>Save As<\/em>&#8216;<\/li>\n<li><strong>System<\/strong> \u2013 you cannot save definitions with this scope<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Managing Definitions<\/h3>\n<p><em>WorkBench<\/em> provides the ability to manage your <em>Cradle environments<\/em> via:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Definitions Sidebar<\/li>\n<li>Definitions Manager<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2285\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2285\" style=\"width: 479px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2285\" src=\"https:\/\/www.threesl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Definitions-Manager.png\" alt=\"Managing definitions scrrenshot\" width=\"479\" height=\"383\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.threesl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Definitions-Manager.png 479w, https:\/\/www.threesl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Definitions-Manager-300x240.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 479px) 100vw, 479px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2285\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Managing definitions<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>These allow you to <em>copy<\/em>, <em>move<\/em> or <em>delete definition files<\/em> through the <em>WorkBench<\/em> interface.<\/p>\n<p>Using these methods to manage your definitions enables you to reduce the number of stored definitions within a project by allowing users to share definitions at the team-level as opposed to users having their own copies of the same definitions.<\/p>\n<h2>Redundant Definitions<\/h2>\n<p>To reduce the amount of redundant definitions, it is possible for the user to create a <em>User<\/em> Definition opposed to creating a <em>Project<\/em> definition if it is for personal use.
