There are both items and cross references in a baseline. The more <em>cross references<\/em> you have the larger the files will be. This means that if you do have many <em>Baselines<\/em>, you could find significant space being used on the server.<\/p>\n<h2>Are Baselines Taking Up a Lot of Server Space?<\/h2>\n<p>In our latest release of <em>Cradle 7.4<\/em>, <em>cross references<\/em> are separated from the other files when a baseline is closed. The<em> cross references<\/em> in each one are now placed in separate uniquely identified folders. Each folder has an alphanumerical identity, dependent on the length of the name for the baseline. This is twice the length of the <em>baseline name<\/em>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3939\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3939\" style=\"width: 717px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3939\" src=\"https:\/\/www.threesl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/baselines_folder.jpg\" alt=\"The Baseline Folders\" width=\"717\" height=\"313\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.threesl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/baselines_folder.jpg 717w, https:\/\/www.threesl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/baselines_folder-300x131.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 717px) 100vw, 717px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3939\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Baseline Folders containing the Cross Reference folders.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Inside each of these folders are 4 files containing the <em>cross references<\/em> and their <em>attributes<\/em>. Taking the four older folders, they total approximately 232KB on disk. If a user zips each folder it comes to 3KB each. The user could also move the zipped files to a different server if required and so saving more space.<\/p>\n<p>The only downside to doing this, is that if a user wishes to use <em>Baseline Mode<\/em> to see the cross references in a baseline, they will not instantly be there. Therefore, should the <em>cross references<\/em> be required in the future, just unzip the file into the original folder.
