This means that the Security Codes for Cradle-7.7 or earlier will <b>not work<\/b> with this new Cradle-8.0 release. Therefore, if you want to upgrade to the new Cradle-8.0 then <b>you must<\/b> contact 3SL Support and request a <b>new<\/b> Cradle-8.0 Security Code since your existing Cradle-7.7 or earlier Security Codes <b>will not<\/b> work with this new release.<\/p>\n<h2>Supported Platforms<\/h2>\n<p>Cradle-8.0 can be run in any mixture of Windows and Linux environments:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Windows (all 64-bit):\n<ul>\n<li>10<\/li>\n<li>11<\/li>\n<li>Server 2015<\/li>\n<li>Server 2019<\/li>\n<li>Server 2022<\/li>\n<li>Server 2025<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Linux:\n<ul>\n<li>Kernel version 5.4.0 or later, e.g. Ubuntu 20.04 (or equivalent Linux distribution) with GLIBC 2.31 or later)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Please note as of Cradle-8.0 we no\u00a0 longer support 32-bit Linux installations.<\/p>\n<p>Oracle libraries have been updated to support minimum version of 19c and the third party libraries have been updated on Windows.<\/p>\n<p>We also support the following Microsoft Office versions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Office 2016<\/li>\n<li>Office 2019<\/li>\n<li>Office 2021<\/li>\n<li>Office 2024<\/li>\n<li>Office 365<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Please note we do NOT support UWP versions of Office, such as Office 365 on demand from the Microsoft store.<\/p>\n<h2>New Cradle-8.0 Capabilities<\/h2>\n<p>This release contains a range of new capabilities and a collection of enhancements and bugs for the existing Cradle components.<\/p>\n<h3>New Features<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Updated UI for the Cradle installer<\/li>\n<li>New UI including new themes to choose from<\/li>\n<li>2FA support<\/li>\n<li>Overhaul of definitions<\/li>\n<li>Numerous enhancements to Test Execution and Recording<\/li>\n<li>Alerts including a new <strong>Alerts<\/strong> sidebar and <strong>Alerts<\/strong> tab<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are also many new minor features. These are covered in the Release Notes but some examples are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Set expansion levels in queries when viewing hierarchies<\/li>\n<li>Choose multiple actions in phase hierarchy<\/li>\n<li>Styling of phases<\/li>\n<li>Background colours in forms and form styling<\/li>\n<li>Enhancements to Project Setup<\/li>\n<li>New options and symbols in some diagrams<\/li>\n<li>Automatically upload a user&#8217;s signature image when performing an approval action in Web Access<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Updated UI for Cradle Installer<\/h4>\n<p>The Cradle installer has been updated to create a new look and feel. You also have the option to set the text\u00a0 and icon sizes.<\/p>\n<p>Please note if any of these options are changed you will need to restart the tool for the change to take affect.<\/p>\n<p>The Web Access interface has also been updated. This is set in the <strong>cws_config<\/strong> file.<\/p>\n<h4>2FA Support<\/h4>\n<p>Two-factor authentication (2FA) is now supported in WorkBench, Web Access, Project Manager, Web Services Interface, the API and the Toolsuite applications.<\/p>\n<p>This is setup in a new <strong>2fa_config<\/strong> file.<\/p>\n<p>There is also a new email template called <strong>web_auth.eml<\/strong>. This template is used to create an email that is sent to a Cradle user when Web Access is configured to use 2FA sent over SMTP.<\/p>\n<h4>Definitions<\/h4>\n<p>Definitions have had a major update in Cradle-8.0 including a new <strong>Definitions Chooser<\/strong> and updates to the <strong>Definitions Manager<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Definitions Chooser<\/strong> provides the ability to select, sort and display extra information for Cradle definition files. You can choose how to group the definitions and you can set a filter. An example of the <strong>Definitions Chooser<\/strong> is shown below:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9521\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9521\" style=\"width: 820px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-9521\" src=\"https:\/\/www.threesl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/definitions_choose_show_info.png\" alt=\"An example of the definitions chooser\" width=\"820\" height=\"473\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.threesl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/definitions_choose_show_info.png 820w, https:\/\/www.threesl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/definitions_choose_show_info-300x173.png 300w, https:\/\/www.threesl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/definitions_choose_show_info-768x443.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9521\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Example Definitions Chooser<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>You can now display a <strong>Summary<\/strong> sidebar in the <strong>Definitions Manager<\/strong> which displays summary information for the selected definition:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9522\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9522\" style=\"width: 669px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-9522\" src=\"https:\/\/www.threesl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/definitions_manager_show_summary.png\" alt=\"Definitions Manager showing a summary\" width=\"669\" height=\"543\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.threesl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/definitions_manager_show_summary.png 669w, https:\/\/www.threesl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/definitions_manager_show_summary-300x243.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 669px) 100vw, 669px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9522\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Definitions Manager<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>You can now rename definitions using the <strong>Definitions Manager<\/strong> and ReqIF import and export exchanges are also available.<\/p>\n<p>Other updates include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Title<\/strong> and <strong>Description<\/strong> fields added to all definition dialogs<\/li>\n<li>Report of all definitions as well as what other definitions use them or what other definitions they are used by<\/li>\n<li>Change history for definitions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Test Execution and Recording<\/h4>\n<p>There have been many enhancements to the Test Execution and Recording implemented in the Cradle-8 release.<\/p>\n<p>Please note that due to new categories and calculations relating to Test Execution and Recording, if you are upgrading from a version prior to Cradle-8 and testing was previously enabled, when you open Project Setup and select Testing you will see the following dialog:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9523\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9523\" style=\"width: 499px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-9523\" src=\"https:\/\/www.threesl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/update_testing_settings.png\" alt=\"Update test settings dialog\" width=\"499\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.threesl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/update_testing_settings.png 499w, https:\/\/www.threesl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/update_testing_settings-300x120.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 499px) 100vw, 499px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9523\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Update test settings dialog in Project Setup<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The enhancements to Test Execution and Recording include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Process of beginning the testing process is now much easier<\/li>\n<li>Easy creation of hierarchical test items<\/li>\n<li>Ability to view test items and publish test reports from the <strong>Test<\/strong> tab<\/li>\n<li>New categories including <strong>Test Article<\/strong>, <strong>Number Passed<\/strong>, <strong>Number Failed<\/strong> and <strong>Test Execution Date<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>New link types\/link rules<\/li>\n<li>New calculations including Total Test Cases and Total Test Results<\/li>\n<li>Ability to define a naming convention of Test Results<\/li>\n<li>Image support in Test Cases<\/li>\n<li>New alert is sent if a Test Case has been ran and is linked to an item<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Alerts<\/h4>\n<p>There have been many enhancements to alerts in Cradle-8. These include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An <strong>Alerts<\/strong> sidebar which shows a summary of alerts displayed as dials<\/li>\n<li>An <strong>Alerts<\/strong> tab<\/li>\n<li>Easier to navigate between the <strong>Alerts<\/strong> section of Project Setup to the <strong>Alerts Setup<\/strong> dialog for a particular item type<\/li>\n<li>Deletion of alerts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>An example of the <strong>Alerts<\/strong> sidebar with the <strong>Alerts<\/strong>\u00a0tab open is shown below:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9524\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9524\" style=\"width: 1016px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-9524\" src=\"https:\/\/www.threesl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/alerts_tab.png\" alt=\"Alerts tab and sidebar\" width=\"1016\" height=\"674\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.threesl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/alerts_tab.png 1016w, https:\/\/www.threesl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/alerts_tab-300x199.png 300w, https:\/\/www.threesl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/alerts_tab-768x509.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9524\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Alerts tab and sidebar<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As you can see from the example above there is a red dot on the <strong>Alerts<\/strong> sidebar button. This indicates there are unread alerts.<\/p>\n<p>From the <strong>Alerts<\/strong> sidebar you can:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Select a view to display the alerts<\/li>\n<li>Create an alert<\/li>\n<li>Refresh the display of alerts<\/li>\n<li>Open the <strong>Alerts<\/strong> tab<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>From the <strong>Alerts<\/strong> tab you can:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Select a view to display the alerts<\/li>\n<li>Set a filter (and clear any set filter)<\/li>\n<li>Sort alerts<\/li>\n<li>Sub-group the summary value options<\/li>\n<li>Create an alert<\/li>\n<li>Refresh the list of alerts<\/li>\n<li>Publish a report<\/li>\n<li>Open the item related to the alert<\/li>\n<li>Delete an alert<\/li>\n<li>Mark an alert as read\/unread<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Performance Enhancements<\/h4>\n<p>Cradle-8.0 also includes a small number of performance improvements:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Speed of filling in multi-column lists<\/li>\n<li>Opening of Project Setup<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Download<\/h2>\n<p>You must contact 3SL for new Security Code(s) for Cradle-8.0. Cradle-8.0 will not accept Security Codes from Cradle-7.7 or any previous release.<\/p>\n<p>Cradle clients (WorkBench, Web Access, Document Publisher for instance) and server (CDS) versions cannot be mixed. Therefore, you must upgrade all Cradle installations to 8.0.<\/p>\n<p>Cradle-8.0 databases do have the same format as Cradle-7.7 databases. Hence the Cradle-8.0 release doesn&#8217;t include a database converter for the transition from Cradle-7.7 to Cradle-8.0.\u00a0 Full details are available in the 8.0 Release Notes, and updated manuals in addition you can always contact <a href=\"mailto:support@threesl.com?subject=&quot;Cradle-7.6 information request&quot;\">support@threesl.com <\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Single User Products<\/h3>\n<p>Please note that there are no maintenance services for single-user Cradle products. Therefore, if you have purchased any of the single-user Cradle-7.7 products:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cradle-RM Desktop<\/li>\n<li>Cradle-RM Pro<\/li>\n<li>Cradle-SE Desktop<\/li>\n<li>Cradle-SE Pro<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>then you will not be able to request a new Cradle-8.0 Security Code. If you want to update your single-user Cradle system to the new Cradle-8.0 release, then you must buy the new Cradle-8.0 release.<\/p>\n<h3>Help with Cradle-8.0<\/h3>\n<p>In conclusion, we&#8217;re both pleased and proud with the new capabilities in Cradle-8.0 and most importantly hope you will benefit by upgrading.
