One of the helpful features of the Document Publisher tool is that it produces correctly formatted and tagged output documents which are easy to load using Document Loader. So you can:
I have been doing this recently in a UK Government project. It works very nicely!
If you want to do it, the only important thing that you must do is to ensure that in the Document Loader Capture Setup, set the import option to Merge so that the changed attributes in the document being loaded are merged back into the items in the database!
Define this once and save the settings in a capture setup so you do not have to remember to do it the second, third ... time that you load a document. Then, you can repeatedly publish and load, and publish and load, and publish and load... as many times as necessary.
What's more, since all of the source documents are stored in the Cradle database, you have a full record of every external change that has been captured. You can difference these documents and difference the information captured from them. You can also prove to the external group that you have loaded all of their changes, and prove where these changes have been loaded in the database.
If you also publish documents as 'formal' documents then Cradle will also keep copies of the published documents in the database... So now you can also compare published documents (or their items) and the documents that you received from the external group (or their items).
This level of detail and traceability is more than sufficient for the most demanding of situations!
