It’s +50 years since the launch of Earth Day, and now nearly 200 countries coordinate a celebration of our fabulous home, with an important message that we need to look after it.
We may be the current custodians of this planet, but we share it with many. To them and ourselves, we have a duty of care. This year more than ever has demonstrated our own fragility. It’s demonstrated how we’re maybe not as invincible as we like to believe. Nature can be a strange beast. Whilst we may not be able to control nature, we can do our bit to care for what we have and ensure we don’t damage it.
As designers, manufacturers and producers we need to consider how and whether what we engineer is beneficial and as non damaging to the environment as possible.
Whether you decide to; pick up that bit of litter on your exercise walk; choose a lower carbon or no meat meal; print double sided paper; leave the light off and the curtains open longer we can all make a difference. If the project you are working on uses resources, make sure you build environment requirements into your design. Make sure they assess and where possible lower the impact of the solution you choose.
There are a number of ways you can get involved with National Tea Day www.nationalteaday.co.uk least of all you can ensure you get a good brew on for elevenses. Maybe nip out at lunch time and get a packet of scones and share afternoon tea with your work colleagues. Ask for donations in a Tea Cup and pick a local charity!

Now the tricky bit, how on earth do we make this blog entry have something to do with Cradle? Ah! Multivalue Picklist Categories is how. If you have a set of premises that you manage, these can be set as items within Cradle. Each café could have a number of supplies that the café offers, and these could be recorded in a multiple value category.
If there was a shortage of Oolong, it would be simple to run a query to list each of the premises that need to be contacted. For further reading on categories, you could read ‘Multiple Value Categories’
Summer’s on the way for those in the Northern Hemisphere. The Vernal (Spring) Equinox is marking the first day astronomical spring. Explained further on TimeandDate.com
Why not consider a spring clean, remove all those dusty files full of project requirements version 1 to version 9. Why? Will you really be able to find what you are looking for without a way of searching? Consider whether you can sensibly access the details of those designs sitting rolled up in mailing tubes. Do you have the means to edit them electronically any more. Does anyone know where the file is kept?
NOTE: If you live in the Southern Hemisphere you don’t have to wait until spring you could have an Autumn clean !

Because the dates of Chinese New Year change every year, individuals born in January or February will need to pay special attention to their birth date in addition to their birth year.

Well 2023 seems to have gone so quickly, in writing our December 2023 newsletter, we take a look back at what happened:
During 2023 we have been working on the latest update to Cradle – Cradle-8.0. This update contains many enhancements, the main enhancement being the user interface. Cradle-8.0 comes with two themes (light and dark) – examples are shown below:
Once we have a release date for Cradle-8.0 we will let you know.

3SL are offering a number of Cradle public training courses in 2024.
Public courses are ideal for companies:
These courses are an alternative to the tailored, industry/implementation specific consultancy and training offered by 3SL. This makes for a cost effective solution, where you’ll benefit from all the normal learning, with the advantage that a public course will have the chance to network and share with other virtual attendees from other industries.
Following feedback our online courses have been split into smaller part day sections (a two day course will now be delivered over four ½ days). This will allow candidates a longer break from training screens and more of an opportunity to put in practice some of the topics covered. When returning to the following session any questions can then be resolved.
